Anward Accommodation is set on spacious grounds on the Cromwell – Bannockburn Road just minutes away from some of the best known New Zealand and Central Otago vineyards and vineyard restaurants.
Here, in a part of Central Otago so sunny and dry, it's affectionately referred to as 'Heart of the Desert', Anward offers New Zealanders and international visitors to the South Island the choice of spoil-yourself hosted Bed & Breakfast accommodation of Anward House or the relaxed home-away-from-home atmosphere of the fully self-contained Heritage Barn.
It isn't just locals and guests who admire Anward House for the way it so successfully embraces materials and architectural themes of Central Otago. In 2006 judges in the Master Builders' House of the Year awarded Anward a Silver Medal. The interior is beautifully appointed without being over the top or in any way sacrificing that all important ‘make yourself at home’ warmth of character. Meanwhile guests staying in the Heritage Barn will want for nothing.
A destination in itself, Cromwell could not be more 'central' for exploring Central Otago and the Southern Lakes region. Arrowtown (40 km) is less than half an hour away, Queenstown (62km) a little over three quarters of an hour and Wanaka (55km) just slightly under. Clyde(21km) and the start/finish of the renowned Otago Central Rail Trail is just 20 mins drive along the shores of Lake Dunstan with Alexandra 10 mins further on. Cromwell is also an ideal gateway to the Haast Pass and the West Coast of the South Island(200km) or the 'Big Sky' country of the Maniototo about an hour to the east.
Doing the Otago Central Rail Trail?
Whether you have conquered the Otago Central Rail Trail or are about to set off on your adventure, put Anward Accommodation at the top of your 'must-stay' list. Your hosts John and Trish can organise to collect or deliver you from the trail's start/end at Clyde. They can also organise transportation from and to Queenstown.
Planning a snow riding holiday?
You couldn't be better positioned than Cromwell or better accommodated than Anward. On average it's only three quarters of an hour to the Coronet Peak car park and an hour ten minutes to parking at Cardrona. The Remarkables and Treble Cone are about an hour and three quarters away. The bonus is the drive and to from any of the ski fields is itself spectacular!
Hosts Trish and John McKay invite you to explore their website and hope that in the not too distant future they can extend to you their South Island born and raised hospitality.
